Author Bob Hicok to Give Poetry Reading

Peoria, IL (October 2, 2013) The Bradley University Visiting Writers Series presents a poetry reading by Bob Hicok, author of several collections of poems, including The Legend of Light. The reading will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23, in the Wyckoff Room in the Cullom-Davis Library.

The reading, sponsored by the Department of English and the Intellectual and Cultural Activities Committee, is free and open to the public.

Bob Hicok, whose recent collections include Words for Empty, Words for Full, and This Clumsy Living have been published in the University of Pittsburgh Press from 2007-2010. Known for their accessible, meditative style, Hicok’s narrative poems are included in his award-winning books Insomnia Diary, Animal Soul, and Plus Shipping. He has received critical praise and numerous awards including the 2008 Bobbitt Prize from the Library of Congress and the Felix Pollak Prize in Poetry for The Legend of the Light (also named 1997 ALA Booklist’s Notable Book of the Year). Hicok is the recipient of five Pushcart Prizes, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and two NEA Poetry Fellowships. He teaches at Virginia Tech University.
