From Listening to Playing!

Ninety high school students from Central Illinois arrive on Bradley's campus June 8-12, 2015, for the annual Department of Music Summer Band Camp.   Students experience a myriad of musical opportunities including a session on "What to Listen for in Music",  sectionals with smaller groups and an instructor on each instrument, and band rehearsals.   The camp culminates with a concert in Dingeldine Music Center on June 12 at 7:00 p.m.

Being a musician never stops as the band campers will experience next week.   Exploring your musical talents and skills, making new friends, and "experiencing life at Bradley" are goals for this year's camp.

The Bradley University Band Camp is supported by a grant from the Wurlitzer Foundation and brings together Bradley University and the Peoria Symphony Orchestra. The camp, now self-supporting, is intended to attract the young musical talent in the Central Illinois area to participate. Like many camps, students will perform in a concert band and benefit from sectional rehearsals. What makes this camp unique is that we will teach listening skills; use a number of musical transcriptions; and teach useful basic history/theory skills to all students, and that explains the name, “From Playing to Listening!” We hope to inspire the student and their families to be involved with music throughout their lifetime.
