Lights, Camera, BUTV News

by Airin Virgilio

For the first time in Bradley history, students on the hilltop can experience real news pertaining to real students… in real time.

This year, BUTV news, formerly known as Midstate Magazine, makes their debut as not just a television news station, but a thrilling, live broadcast. The transition into live broadcast has producers and performers stirring with anticipation for the opportunities this brings for the way the hilltop sees student news.

Along with the addition of live broadcasting, the producers of BUTV News have added several new segments to the show to create a diverse and captivating experience for student audiences. The new segments include on-air interviews, audience participation, and a spotlight feature called Someone You Should Know.

But these few segments are not the only new possibilities for BUTV News.

Dave Lennie, the faculty producer of BUTV News, says the possibilities for additional student participation are endless. BUTV News is student-generated and student-inspired. The production team works tirelessly to uncover the news and information that Bradley students want to see most. And what would students want to see more than content generated by their own peers?

With BUTV News, students can take the Bradley campus by storm and showcase their most coveted talents. Students in the Interactive Media department are already involving their own works of digital media and spots. Any theatrical, television, music, or creative work is welcome to premiere on BUTV News so that students can share their voice.

Ellie Rhodes, the producer of BUTV News and former Midstate Magazine, shares her hopes and goals for the new student resource. “We’re trying to center all the news around Bradley and the Peoria area. We’re trying to include topics that Bradley students are interested in, and we want BUTV to be a resource students go to when they want to know what’s happening on campus.”

So, what is it like to work in a real live, fast-paced television broadcast station? Ellie said, “My favorite part about working in the studio is being in the exciting environment and seeing the whole show come together before my eyes.”

BUTV News airs every Wednesday night on Campus Cable Television at 6:00 pm on Channel 17. Visit their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/BradleyUniversityTV or visit their website at http://butvnews.bradley.edu.
