Professor safe after earthquake, tsunami warning in Chile
April 2, 2014
Associate Professor of Teacher Education Dr. Cecile Arquette, who is teaching in Valparaiso, Chile, this semester, reported no damage from the April 1 earthquake that rattled northern Chile and prompted a tsunami warning.
The 8.2-magnitude quake was centered 1,000 miles away and prompted an evacuation warning. Arquette and her family briefly retreated to their apartment building’s roof. The earthquake generated a 6-foot wave that only affected the city’s beach.
