Only two years after graduation, Foster College of Business alumnus Frankey Moss ’12 was named HON’s Business Development Manager of the Year for 2014.

Moss is a business development associate for HON, the second-largest office furniture manufacturer in North America. He is the manufacturer’s representative in Virginia.

In order to qualify for this award, Moss first had to win top BDM of his respective Mid-Atlantic region. From there, he had to outperform all of the other six top BDMs from their respective regions. As a result of his success, Moss has won a spot on the Team Up With HON trip, in Berlin in April. Moss also received a cash award.

Moss graduated with a communication degree and a minor in professional sales. Moss said that the professional sales program was crucial in helping him obtain his current job.

“The most influential classes were Marketing 304 & 404, Professional Selling, taught by Jason Garrett,” Moss said. “304 was the first class I took that introduced me to sales and 404 paved the way for me in my career.”

While in-class learning was helpful, Moss also had some experiential learning that assisted him in training for his career. Moss had an internship with WMBD, a local television station in Peoria. In the daytime, he worked with the sales and marketing side of the station, and in the nighttime, he worked with the production team to produce the morning news.

Other highlights of Moss’s experience included the networking opportunities. He was able to first link up with HON through a job fair.

“Foster was involved in all of my development, and the professional sales program allowed businesses to see our skills,” Moss said. “That’s how I transitioned into a role with HON.”

"I am confident that Frankey, along with his hard work and determination, was able to succeed this soon in his career because of his opportunities at Bradley University and the Professional Selling Program," said John Affre of the HON Company's Solutions Account Group.

Moss had some advice for future aspiring sales men and women.

“Selling is a part of everything. Not only does professional selling teach you how to sell in a professional atmosphere, but it also teaches you how to sell yourself to businesses and allows you to sharpen your presentation skills.”
