Faculty, alumni honored

Faculty and alumni from Bradley’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences received honors during Founder’s Day events. Four faculty were recognized for teaching and scholarship excellence, one alumnus was named a Centurion and two alumni received honors for their contributions.

Awards included:

Dr. Amy Bacon, Assistant Professor of Psychology — Caterpillar Inc. Faculty Achievement Award for Teaching
Bacon was honored for her involvement with students’ studies, as she routinely supervises research projects, presentations at national and regional conferences, and annual Scholarship Expo presentations. She also actively contributes to the Center for Teaching Excellence.

Dr. Claire Etaugh, Caterpillar Professor of Psychology — Charles M. Putnam Award for Excellence in Teaching
Etaugh was recognized for numerous academic achievements in 50-plus years at the University. She has authored more than 100 publications and textbooks while she helped students find their professional footing.

Dr. Luke Haverhals, Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry — Caterpillar Inc. Faculty Achievement Award for Scholarship
Haverhals was honored for research that led to $700,000 in grant funding, four U.S. patents and several published articles co-authored by his students. He also started a company to commercialize technology he developed.

Dr. Susan Brill de Ramirez, Caterpillar Professor of English — Francis C. Mergen Award for Public Service
Brill de Ramirez was honored for her public service. She is known for expertise in Native American literature and has authored three books, numerous articles and has presented her research at more than 80 professional conferences.

Dr. Laurie Vickroy, Professor of English — Samuel Rothberg Professional Excellence Award
Vickroy was honored for a career that’s produced several books, numerous other publications and nationwide recognition as an expert scholar in literature and trauma. Her research has been presented at major regional, national and international conferences.

David Brant ’74 — Centurion
Brant, a psychology graduate, was honored for three decades in global law enforcement. Now a managing director in federal practice for financial services company BDO, is a noted expert in global law enforcement. He began his professional career with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service and was named director in 1997.

Lisa Eakman Moon ‘05 — Outstanding Young Graduate
Moon is the president and CEO of the Global FoodBanking Network, former vice president of global agriculture and food at the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and former staff at the U.S. Department of Defense and Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C. She graduated from Bradley with degrees in international studiespolitical science and Spanish.

Ray Zarvell ’62 MA ’69 — Lydia Moss Bradley Award
Zarvell, the longtime Executive Director for Student Development and Health Services, served his post at Bradley for 39 years with responsibility for counseling, testing, student health, orientation, advisement, learning assistance, and peer counseling programs. He pioneered college orientation programs and played a key role in the creation of the Academic Exploration Program for undecided majors.
