NASA’s 3D-Printed Habitat Challenge

  • Bradley Representative, “NASA’s 3D-Printed Habitat Challenge”- [NASA-Bradley University (Allied Partner)]--Sponsored by Caterpillar, Bechtel, Brick and Mortar Ventures, and ACI (Aug 2017-Aug 2018).
    • I was involved in all aspects of the competition including serving as a member in the team responsible for the development of the competition rules for the five components (2 Virtual Construction levels at (LODs of 60% and 100%) + 3 physical construction levels (3D printing of a foundation system, hydrostatic testing of a 3D printed wall supported by a foundation, and 3D printing of a subscale habitat at 1/3 scale) of Phase 3 of the competition developed by distinguished engineers from NASA, Caterpillar, Bechtel, Brick and Mortar Ventures.)
    • Participated in the development of the “Frequently Asked Questions” documents posted by the rules team committee to answer the competitor’s questions.
    • Participated in the Informational Webinar (as the Bradley Representative) on Phase 3 of the competition (bradley.edu), April 4th, 2018.
    • Participated in the recruitment and advertisement of the competition by attending several conferences/workshops.
    • Presented “Session 1: Allied Organization and Sponsors Insights and Lessons Learned” at the 3D -Printed Habitat Challenge workshop held at Kennedy Space Center, Cape Canaveral, Florida, May 12-14, 2018.
    • Presented “Session 6: Judging Level 2 Foundation planning” at the 3D -Printed Habitat Challenge workshop held at Kennedy Space Center, Cape Canaveral, Florida, May 12-14, 2018.
    • Participated in the evaluating the Phase 3 Virtual Construction Level 1 submission (LOD 60% BIM models and 3D printed miniature models submitted by 18 teams competing in Phase 3 of the competition
    • Administered the Autodesk BIM free software provided to the teams to help them develop their BIM deliverables.
