Title: Patient Care Manager (Emergency Department)

My nursing degree has made a tremendous difference in my career.  Not only is a nursing degree required to become a registered nurse; it has afforded me several other opportunities to advance in the nursing field.  I have always had an interest in Emergency Nursing and I am currently working as the Patient Care Manager for OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL.   I love my job; for me, there is no greater pleasure than being able to work in a field where you can provide help to someone during their greatest hour of need.

When I made the decision to go back to school to obtain my nursing degree I had several nursing schools that I could have attended.  After meeting with several of these schools, there was no doubt that Bradley University was the place for me.  When I think of the "Bradley Experience"; I think of a "great experience.”  So many opportunities were available for me at Bradley and I developed many friendships during my time on the Hilltop.

Title: Communicable Disease Coordinator

The Bradley nursing program provided me with the knowledge to fulfill multiple roles within the nursing profession.  The instructors challenged and prepared me to think outside the box, to be creative and develop innovative solutions to address the core functions and essential services of public health.

Bradley’s nursing program has a strong community health component. I learned how to identify health disparities in our community, how to implement collaboration to address those needs, and how to evaluate local services.

For me, community networking and identifying evidence-based public health interventions has been a rewarding experience, and it all started at Bradley.

Title: Trauma Services Manager and SANE Coordinator

When I graduated from Bradley in 2006, I never imagined I would be in hospital management at this point in my career. I started as a staff nurse in the Emergency Department of a very busy Level 1 Trauma Center where I was introduced to forensic nursing and caring for critically injured patients.  During my time in the ED, I became a certified Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE-A) and joined the International Association of Forensic Nurses.  I also received several other certifications including, Trauma Nurse Specialist and instructor status for the Emergency Nurses Association. I have been Manager of Trauma Services for just over a year. My nursing career has moved very quickly upwards.

I firmly believe I would not be on this path had it not been for the strong liberal arts education I received while obtaining my Bachelor’s of Science of Nursing at Bradley University. The education you receive will prepare you to take on whatever it is you find in the field of nursing you are passionate about. I am grateful for the strong foundation the nursing program at Bradley laid for my current nursing practice.

As a lifelong member of the Greater Peoria community, my experience at Bradley further connected me to professionals in the Peoria nursing community.  For example, I was invited to join Sigma Theta Tau International (a nursing honor society) as an undergrad.  Now I serve as the treasurer for the local Epsilon Epsilon chapter.  Serving on the board enables me to work with other professionals in the wider nursing community and interact with the nursing faculty and students at Bradley.
