Though he wasn’t sporting the 45-pound costume or green makeup it takes to become Shrek, Eric Petersen ’03 gave the audience at Monday night’s Cubs game a sneak peek of what they will hear if they attend Shrek the Musical.

Eric, who stars as the loveable leading-man ogre in the national tour of the popular musical, was invited to sing the national anthem at Wrigley Field.

Shrek the Musical kicked off last week at the Cadillac Palace Theatre and will be in Chicago until September 5.

“I could not be more excited to be playing Shrek, and with such a great cast I am sure the tour is going to really be an awesome production,” Eric said.

After its run in Chicago, the tour will stop at the Fox Theatre in St. Louis from September 11 to September 26. It will play in more than 25 U.S. cities before November 2011.

Tickets for Shrek the Musical range from $25 to $90 and are available through Ticketmaster. Visit http://shrekthemusical.co.uk/ for more information and the complete tour schedule.
