Founded on the best traditions of a comprehensive education, and accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre, the Department of Theatre Arts offers both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Sciences degrees in Theatre Arts with concentrations available in Performance and Production.
The Performance Major offers students who desire a more intensive educational experience in Acting and Directing the opportunity for focused study.
The Production Major fills a specific niche at Bradley University attracting students that are seeking an opportunity for additional study and practice in production and design within the scope of a comprehensive Theatre Arts major.
For students looking to explore the foundations of theatre while pursuing a major in another field, the Department of Theatre Arts offers a minor in theatre studies. Students pursuing the Minor in Theatre Arts must complete a total of 18 semester hours of theatre study in addition to their major and the university's general education requirements.
Credit for Coursework in Theatre Arts
In accordance with the criteria of the Higher Learning Commission, which accredits Bradley University, courses in the Department of Theatre Arts are assigned course credit hours as follows:
- One hour of classroom or direct faculty instruction and a minimum of two hours of out-of-class student work each week for approximately fifteen weeks for one semester hour of credit, or ten to twelve weeks for one quarter hour of credit, or the equivalent amount of work over a different amount of time; or
- At least an equivalent amount of work as required in paragraph (1) of this definition for other activities as established by Bradley University, including laboratory work, internships, practica, studio work, and other academic work leading toward to the award of credit hours.
