Women's Studies Celebrates the WMS Senior Minors
May 8, 2013
Women's Studies holds a Senior Celebration every May to honor our graduating seniors. This year festivities took place on the 4th floor of Bradley Hall. The food was amazing, the stories even better, and hearing about the accomplishments of these fine ladies was second to none. Each senior described her WMS 400 research paper, discussing her research findings and offering insight into why she chose her topic. Seniors also spoke about their most memorable course readings and reflected on their formative experiences as Women's Studies minors. Dr. Scott handed out several awards that recognized both academic excellence and commitment to service. Elizabeth Goins was honored with the Women's Studies Service Award for her work on the Bradley University Tunnel of Oppression and the Bradley Anti-Slavery Coalition. Avrien Anderson won the "Snazziest Research Paper Title in WMS 400" for her paper, "He Runs the Castle, but She Runs the Kingdom: An Inquiry into Gender in Science Fiction Literature Through the Game of Thrones and the Hobbit." Cassidy Palacios received the "Second Snazziest Title" for her WMS 400 paper, "To Call Ourselves Free: "Gender Inequality in Access to Birth Control." History Major and Women's Studies Minor Sammi Peterburs was named the 2012-2013 Bonnie Gordon Memorial Scholarship award winner. Congratulations to all the 2013 Women's Studies Seniors! We wish you much success in your future endeavors!!
