Manufacturing Engineering is one of the newest and most dynamic fields of the engineering professions. It involves the development and coordination of the entire manufacturing process from product design through after-sale service. Manufacturing engineers apply knowledge of the science of materials, processes, and information to the design, integration, and advancement of products and systems of manufacture. Students who typically consider majoring in Mechanical Engineering or Physics might also consider Manufacturing Engineering. Bradley University’s Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering consistently ranks among the top three programs in the nation among schools that do not grant doctoral degrees, in U.S.News& World Report’s College Guide.
At Bradley University, laboratory experience is an essential component of the manufacturing engineering program. Five laboratories are well equipped to serve the program in:
- computer aided graphics and design
- computer integrated manufacturing and robotics
- materials science and engineering
- materials removal and fabrication
- computer aided manufacturing
Students in Bradley’s Manufacturing Engineering program are exposed to a wide variety of faculty expertise. Some of the research interests of Bradley’s Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering faculty include:
- sequential design of experiments
- technical communication
- geometric modeling
- rapid prototyping
- computer aided design
Many instructors are accomplished authors and researchers in their field. Bradley’s low student-to-faculty ratios create a collaborative teaching environment. During the senior year, students work under faculty supervision on real-world problems that exist in the community in both manufacturing organizations and service organizations such as:
- city government
- air transport companies
- court systems
- utility companies
Bradley's Manufacturing Engineering graduates enjoy a consistently strong job outlook, with strong placement rates and average starting salaries. Graduates have a wide range of career options in industry, government, research, service and entrepreneurship. Recent employers include:
- Caterpillar Inc.
- BUTLER International
- Honda Research & Development Americas, Inc.
- eServ LLC
