The Industrial Engineering curriculum at Bradley provides a sound basis in the fundamentals of engineering, physical and behavioral sciences, and theoretical and applied mathematics. Industrial Engineering is essentially a blend of Engineering and Business. By using engineering tools and methods, industrial engineers efficiently and effectively make business management decisions. The degree has an emphasis on problem solving of both structured and unstructured types, which prepares students for a wide variety of Industrial Engineering employment opportunities, as well as graduate school. Bradley University’s Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering program consistently ranks among the top three programs in the nation among schools that do not grant doctoral degrees, in U.S.News & World Report’s College Guide.
Bradley’s Engineering curriculum is supported by a high-tech campus with state-of-the-art laboratory and computer facilities that utilize the latest in hardware and software technologies.
Some of the research interests of Bradley’s Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering faculty include:
- sequential design of experiments
- technical communication
- geometric modeling
- rapid prototyping
- computer aided design
Many instructors bring these research interests into the classroom.
During the senior year, students work in teams of three to four students under faculty supervision on a project which deals with problems that exist in the community in both manufacturing organizations and service organizations such as:
- city government
- air transport companies
- court systems
- utility companies
Projects address significant areas of concern and the final solutions administered by students have a significant impact on the company. Previous projects have resulted in savings as high as three million dollars annually for the company.
Over the years, four Bradley students have received the Armstrong Award for Academic Excellence (outstanding IE senior in the nation), and seven others have placed either second or third in the competition. Bradley students have also finished among the top three in national research paper competitions.
Bradley's Industrial Engineering graduates enjoy a consistently strong job outlook with strong placement rates and above average starting salaries. Recent employers include:
- Caterpillar Inc.
- GAF Materials Corp.
- Distribution Logistics
