JEAN E. JOST

JEAN E. JOST

Pict of Jean Jost
Dr. Jean E. Jost came to Bradley in 1989 after teaching in temporary posts at Virginia Commonwealth University, College of Mt. St. Joseph in Ohio, and Millikin University in Illinois. She completed a B.A. at Nazareth College in Rochester, N.Y., and a M.A. and Ph.D. at the University of Cincinnati. She is a medievalist who specializes in Chaucerian and Arthurian literature. In the English major courses, she teaches Medieval English literature, including such special topic courses as “Gawain and the Green Knight.” In the general education program, she regularly teaches courses in women's literature and introduction to literature. She also teaches argumentative writing.
Dr. Jost has published two books -- Ten Middle English Arthurian Romances: A Refrence Guide and Chaucer's Humor: Critical Essays -- as well as scores of articles. She is co- editor of Chaucer Yearbook. In her research, she has recently branched out to manuscript studies and is working on a critical edition of the medieval text The Pricke of Conscience. This edition will be a comparison of seven recensions with text, modern critical apparatus, an extensive introduction, notes, and commentary. She also has another book in progress, “Trouthe is the hyeste thyng”: Behests and their Breaking in the Canterbury Tales.
Dr. Jost is the faculty advisor for Student Senate and also serves as an advisor for Habitat for Humanity and Common Ground. She is the treasurer of the local chapter of the national scholastic honorary Phi Kappa Phi and chair of the University Faculty Grievance Committee. She is also a long-time member of the Women's Studies Committee.
The Department is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Kevin Stein to the position of Illinois Poet Laureate.
English majors are encouraged to take the American or English Studies Abroad Program for one or two semesters.
