ROBERT PRESCOTT

ROBERT PRESCOTT

Pict of Robert Prescott
Dr. Prescott has taught at Bradley since 1991. Before that he taught for two years at Lakeland College in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and for one year at the University of Maine at Farmington. He received his Ph.D. in English from the Univers ity of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and his dissertation is an interdisciplinary study of the effects of scientific knowledge on British Romantic Poetry. Dr. Prescott's interests in literary study began when he was completing his B.S. degree in biochemi stry, and the interdisciplinary interest continues to play a role in his teaching and research.
Dr. Prescott is the 1996 recipient of the University New Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching. Within the English curriculum, he teaches the second-semester survey course in English Literature (ENG. 239), an upper-level course in British Romantic Literature (ENG. 361); he also teaches the Senior Project course (ENG. 480). In the General Education curriculum, he teaches both the one-semester course in Western Civilization (CIV. 100) and the year-long course that combines Western Civilization with Freshman Composition (CIV. 111-112). He also teaches three different upper-level courses in writing: Research in the Individual Disciplines (ENG. 304), Technical Writing (ENG. 305), and Business Writing (ENG. 306).
Dr. Prescott's research interests reflect the wide-ranging nature of writing. He has published articles on science and religion in the writing of John Keats, on humor in the poetry of Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and on the Romantic nature of life and mu sic of the violinist Niccolo Paganini. He is currently at work completing a book manuscript on science and religion in British Romantic Poetry, and he is beginning an article on the poetry of Felicia Hemmans and its relevance to contemporary students of British Literature.
Outside of teaching and research, Dr. Prescott's primary commitments are his service as the coordinator of Bradley's M.A. program in English and as faculty facilitator for students applying for prestigious scholarships after graduation.
The Department is proud to announce the appointment of Dr. Kevin Stein to the position of Illinois Poet Laureate.
English majors are encouraged to take the American or English Studies Abroad Program for one or two semesters.
