Sigma Kappa is Top Fundraising Team

September 30, 2016

The Sigma Kappa sorority at Bradley University is the top fundraising team of the year for the Walk to End Alzheimer's® in Central Illinois. This year, they’ve raised nearly $16,000, exceeding their goal of $12,000.

The sorority’s national philanthropy is the Alzheimer’s Association. Every fall, the members participate in the Peoria Walk to End Alzheimer’s, an event that raises awareness of and funds for Alzheimer’s research.

“I am ecstatic about going above and beyond our goal,” said Shelby Brown, Sigma Kappa Vice President of Philanthropic Service “I am so proud of everyone in our house and I just wish to continue showing our support to such a great cause.”

Many of the members of Sigma Kappa have been personally affected by Alzheimer’s. For them, the walk serves as an opportunity to share their story and support one another in the fight against the disease.

“It showed me how many people knew exactly what it was like to have a family member living with Alzheimer’s.” said Carissa Dambacher, whose grandmother suffers from the disease. “I felt the care and support through Sigma Kappa that will never be forgotten.”

Sigma Kappa has been working to raise awareness of the needs of the elderly since 1954. Since then, they have granted more than $1 million in research and psycho-social grants that work to fight Alzheimer’s.
