Zimmerman to Present Recital

Bradley University saxophone professor Keith M. Zimmerman will present a faculty recital on Sunday, September 18, at 3 p.m. in the Dingeldine Music Center, located at 1417 W. Barker Ave., in Peoria. Joining him will be pianist Andrea Molina. The event is free and open to the public.

The program will consist of a transcription for soprano saxophone of the Sonata in g minor supposedly written by Vivaldi for violin but actually by French composer Nicholas d’Chedville, who published it as being by Vivaldi to enhance sales; Rachmaninoff’s famous Vocalise; the Lawson Lunde Sonata II for alto saxophone which Zimmerman edited and facilitated the publication of this summer; and Marcel Mule’s transcription of the Christoph Gluck Scene Champs-Elysees from his opera Orpheus. Also on the program are Claude Pascal’s Sonatine from 1948; Henri Tomasi’s Concerto for Alto Saxophone; a transcription of one of the grave moments from one of Guiseppe Tartini’s over 100 violin sonatas; and Rudy Wiedoeft’s Saxarella as Wiedoeft himself played it in the 1920’s.

Zimmerman has been at Bradley for 17 years as saxophone and saxophone ensemble teacher and formerly taught saxophone at Illinois Wesleyan University. He holds four degrees in saxophone. He has worked as a public school band director, lead saxophonist for Ringling Bros. Circus, is an artist/clinician for Paris Selmer Saxophones and Eugene Rousseau mouthpieces, and is the leader of the Illinois Saxophone Quintet. Zimmerman has appeared in concert in Canada, France, England, and Germany as well as many parts of the U.S. on soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones.

Pianist Andrea Molina is a former Bradley faculty member. As a pianist and collaborative artist, Andrea has been an official accompanist for the International Double Reed Society’s convention, the NATS Intern Workshop, and the Nashville Symphony Chorus and has served as the principal pianist for the Abilene Philharmonic Orchestra, Opera Quad Cities, the Peoria Ballet, and the Peoria Symphony where she has appeared as guest soloist. Currently, Andrea has enjoyed music directing two summers at Corn Stock Theatre and is currently music directing an original show by Derek Childs at the Apollo Theatre.
