Concordia Trio Spring Concert To Be Given February 9

The Concordia String Trio will present a concert on Thursday, February 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the Dingeldine Music Center, located at 1417 W. Barker. The event is free and open to the public.

The concert will feature works by American composers, including “Three Counterpoints” by Walter Piston, “Seven Paragraphs” by Henry Cowell, “Trio for Violin, Viola, and Cello” by Alan Hovhaness, “Berceuse” by Leonard Mark Lewis, and “String Trio No. 1: Zazen” by David Colson. The Lewis and Colson works were written specifically for the Concordia String Trio in 2002 and 2005.

Trio members are Marcia Henry Liebenow, violinist, Concertmaster of the Peoria Symphony Orchestra and faculty member at Bradley University; Leslie Perna, violist, faculty member at the University of Missouri-Columbia and violist of the Esterhazy Quartet; and cellist Karen Becker from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, who also serves as principal cellist of the Lincoln Symphony Orchestra.

The concert marks the 17th anniversary of the Concordia String Trio’s debut in Peoria. The Trio has performed recitals, educational programs, and given lecture/demonstrations in Chicago and throughout the Midwest, in Boston, Vermont, California, Texas, Kentucky, and Utah. They were featured on WTVP in a program titled “Marcia and Friends” as part of the PSO Sound Bites series. The Trio also has been the resident ensemble at the Warebrook Contemporary Music Festival, and recorded a Capstone CD entitled “90’s Timeflow – Chamber Music of Alan Schmitz.” Their Viennese String Trio CD, recorded in 2016, will be released by Centaur early in 2017.
