Department of Physical Therapy receives grant from Community Foundation

The Bradley University Department of Physical Therapy recently received a $4500 grant from the Community Foundation of Central Illinois that made possible the purchase of equipment for the department's new Clinic for Fitness and Function.

A Motomed exercise bike was purchased for use in the clinic that serves community members with neurological conditions.

"The Foundation's grant enabled us to purchase equipment appropriate to the clients we serve and to offer a safe place for them to exercise," said Dr. Melissa Peterson, Associate Professor of Physical Therapy and clinic director.

The clinic, which has served eight clients in its first two months of operation, is staffed by Bradley physical therapy students, who gain experience working with clients and develop individualized exercise prescriptions. Two six-week exercise sessions will be offered during the spring semester. The clinic is open for individuals with neurological conditions such as stroke, Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, and spinal cord injury who have been discharged from and/or are not currently eligible for outpatient physical therapy.
