Guest Artist to Perform Monday

Kostas Tiliakos, Visiting Associate Professor of Oboe at the UW-Madison, will present a performance with pianist Sara Giusti on Monday, February 2, at 7:30 p.m. at Bradley University’s Dingeldine Music Center, located at 1417 W. Barker Avenue. The performance is free and open to the public.

A native of Athens, Greece, Kostas Tiliakos has been Principal Oboe in the Greek National Opera Orchestra in Athens since 1997, where he previously held the Solo English horn position. An avid lover of contemporary music, Kostas has been a member of the Hellenic Ensemble for Contemporary Music since 1990 and has premiered and recorded works by contemporary composers. He also recorded solo and chamber music works on Wandelweiser (Germany), Lyra and Irida Classics (Greece) and has been broadcast on radio and television throughout Europe and the US. Internationally, he has appeared as soloist throughout Europe, Africa, Canada and the US. Parallel to his studies in music, Kostas studied biology at Athens University from which he earned a B.A. in European Cultural Studies. He received an M.M. in oboe from the University of Wisconsin, Madison under Marc Fink. He also studied with Didier Pateau, Claude Chieulet, Paul Dombrecht, and Hansjörg Schellenberger. Since fall 2013, Kostas is the Visiting Associate Professor of Oboe at UW-Madison.

Sara Giusti was born in Italy in 1983. She studied eight years with pianist Benedetto Lupo at the Conservatorio “Nino Rota” of Monopoli. Since completing her Diploma in 2003, Giusti has deepened her knowledge of piano performance under the guidance of pianist and teacher Marisa Somma, former mentor of Benedetto Lupo. She also has studied with Lazar Berman, Andrea Lucchesini, Nelson Delle Vigne-Fabbri, Riccardo Risaliti, Paolo Bordoni and Pierluigi Camicia. She attended Robert Levin`s course at Gargano International Festival, through which she studied Beethoven`s piano works. She also studied with pianist Konstantin Bogino. She has won first prizes in many national competitions since she was nine. In particular, she was awarded first prize at the Igor Stravinsky National Music Competition in Bari (2003). She has played a number of concerts in Italy and Switzerland. She is a D.M.A. student in Piano Performance under the guidance of Professor Cristopher Taylor at UW-Madison. In addition to her love for music, Sara has always been interested in medical sciences and studied dentistry in Italy, where she earned her degree in the Spring of 2012, magna cum laude.
