Women's Choir Concert May 3

The Bradley University Women's Choir, under the direction of Dr. Kerry Walters, will present the final concert of the 2014-15 Music Scholarship Concert Series on Sunday, May 3, at 3 p.m. in Dingeldine Music Center, located at 1417 W. Barker Avenue.

The program will feature a variety of choral music including Eric Whitacre’s Five Hebrew Love Songs with guest violinist Julie Haring. Also included will be And Ain’t I A Woman! based on the words and spirit of Sojourner Truth in her speech at the Ohio Women’s Right Convention of 1851. Several folk song arrangements, opera choruses and other selected pieces will also be performed. Rounding out the program will be a scene from Gilbert & Sullivan’s operetta The Pirates of Penzance featuring the choir and vocal performance majors Tracey Furling as Mabel and Seth Johnson as Frederic. Voce Femine, a chamber ensemble from the larger choir will also perform. Pianist Andrea Molina will provide piano accompaniment for the group.

The BU Women's Choir was established in 1990 to provide women at Bradley with the opportunity to sing music especially written for treble voices in an atmosphere of collegial and congenial music making. The group rehearses twice weekly and is made up of both music majors and those majoring in other fields of study.

Kerry Walters is Associate Professor of Music at Bradley, where she teaches voice, music education, and conducts the Bradley University Opera Workshop. Andrea Molina serves as staff accompanist for the Department of Music.

Admission is free for students and $10 for the general public. Tickets will be available at the door the afternoon of the performance. For more information please call 677-2601.
