Everett Dirksen, Civil Rights Act subject of lecture

February 27, 2014

Frank Mackaman of the Dirksen Congressional Center will discuss Everett Dirksen and the Civil Rights Act of 1964 in a presentation at Bradley University on March 11. The free lecture will take place at noon in the Wyckoff Room in Cullom-Davis Library.

Mackaman will address the influence of place, process, people, and product in his talk, “How Laws Are Made: Everett Dirksen and the Civil Rights Act of 1964.” Based on Dirksen’s archival materials, Mackaman will evaluate the role the Senate Minority Leader played in passing the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1964.

The lecture is part of Bradley's campus-wide theme for this school year, "Celebrating Civil Rights – Past and Present."
