Bradley Bans Hoverboards

January 14, 2016

Upon review of information from the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the National Fire Protection Agency, Bradley University has made the decision to not allow Hoverboards to be used, kept, or stored in any University owned property (including residence halls, fraternity/sorority houses and St. James apartments).  This ban is effective immediately.

There is enough of a fire risk and safety hazard, that we must be sure to do our due diligence before allowing their use, charging, and storage in these areas. We will continue to monitor the safety of these devices and seek appropriate input as we review this ban over the course of the coming semester.

Hoverboards can be used on the grounds of the University, but users will be required to follow the same University guidelines regarding skateboards on campus.  The use of Hoverboards will not be allowed inside any University building.

If a student has already returned to campus and has a Hoverboard, please contact the Housing Office or University Police.  You will be allowed to store the device with them and retrieve it at a later date to take home.

Thank you for your cooperation on this matter.

Sincerely,
Nathan Thomas
Vice President of Student Affairs
