Every student should get involved in at least one professional organization to understand their major better. They always have opportunities to get leadership, network, go to conferences, and some of them have exams or competitions to get involved in. Personally, I have been involved in an organization called ASCM, Association of Supply Chain Management. Through this organization, I have gone to the national conference in Chicago and networked with business professionals from around the country and the world. This conference had multiple seminars to listen to and learn more about my major. Also, I watched our case competition team win 1st place in the entire country against other universities for their solution to a supply chain issue. I competed with a team of students, my junior year (we didn’t make it nearly as far). I was the business liaison, communicating with the Foster College of Business, and served on the Dean Student Advisory council for ASCM. Probably, my favorite is the speed dating event ASCM hosts because the Bradley Fall Job Fair that over 200 employers come to. A representative from 4 major companies come to the event and the students get to meet and hear about their companies. It is a great way to get to know an employer before the job fair. Through this, I had multiple interviews. Moral of the story, get involved in a professional organization and learn more about your major to prepare you for a job after college.
