Biography
Mr. Fleming’s research involved the genetics, in vitro synthesis, and characterization of membrane transport proteins in the bacterium, Escherichia coli. Subsequently, he held various management positions in private industry.
Teaching
BIO 526: Advanced Pathophysiology, BIO 406: Microbiology, BIO 310: Genetics laboratory, BIO 205: Pathophysiology, BIO 231 and 233: Human Anatomy and Physiology, BIO 202: Microbiology and Immunology, BIO 111: Molecules to Cells, BIO 102: Life Sciences II – Cell Biology and Ecology, BIO 101: Life Sciences I – Human Genetics and Immunology. Courses have been taught conventionally and as online offerings.
Mr. Fleming believes that students learn best when they are engaged and content is substantive. For this reason, his courses, especially the laboratories, emphasize relevant, practical application.
Scholarship
Mr. Fleming has no ongoing research but mentors the supervised research of individual undergraduate and graduate students. Projects are frequently interdisciplinary in nature.
Service
Mr. Fleming actively supports the research of other department faculty with regard to maintenance of research and teaching laboratory equipment and instrumentation and department facilities. He serves on various University and department committees, the STEM program, and is active in local STEM activities and ecological restoration works.
