Mickey Schallau
Mickey Schallau is currently the golf coach at Peoria Notre Dame High School. She began her coaching career when she was hired at Academy/Spalding in the fall of 1973 to start the girl’s sports program. Mickey played high school basketball in Iowa, and softball for the Pekin Lettes so she was familiar with organized sports and started volleyball, basketball and softball in her first year. In the fall of 1974, the boy’s golf coaching position opened up and Mickey started coaching boys and girls golf teams for the next 39 years. In 1989, Bradley University came calling and needed someone to start their women’s golf program and Mickey served as their coach for 8 years. She has the distinction of playing sports prior to Title IX, and began coaching the same year that Title IX became law. She is a member of the Greater Peoria Sports Hall of Fame.
