Interdisciplinary Film Studies Minor

The Film Studies minor is an interdisciplinary field of study which enables students to develop critical and comparative analytical skills while learning the social significance of film throughout history and across borders. Students will gain an understanding of film aesthetics, history, genre, and theoretical approaches in film studies as well as have the opportunity to participate in creative practices related to the filmmaking process.

Core Requirements (9 credits)

• THE 141 Film Appreciation - 3 hrs.
• CFA 250 Film History – 3 hrs.
• CFA 320 Film Theory and Criticism – 3 hrs.

Electives (9 credits, select 3 courses)

• WLT 151 French Cinema – 3 hrs.
• WLT 152 German Cinema – 3 hrs.
• HIS 210 History of European Film – 3 hrs.
• CFA 221 Media Aesthetics – 3 hrs.
• COM 225 Visual Storytelling – 3 hrs.
• IM 285 Introduction to Video for Interactive Media – 3 hrs.
• CFA 321 Film Genre Topics (may be repeated 2 times with unique topics) - 3-6 hrs.
• COM 445 Nonlinear Production – 3 hrs.
