Who We Are

At Bradley University, we celebrate you — your personality, your style, what you believe, and how you view the world. We combine different fields, backgrounds, talents, and strengths so everyone feels welcome and accepted for who they are. We understand there is great strength in our differences.

The Office of Campus Culture and Climate plays an important role in that mission. We develop and promote campus-wide initiatives, so every student, faculty member, or staff member feels truly welcomed, respected, and valued.

Through comprehensive Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) workshops and education, data-driven initiatives, and community engagement, we’re working together to strengthen our campus culture, so Bradley isn’t just a place of learning, it’s a welcoming and inclusive campus for all.

Inclusion

Ensuring that all individuals, regardless of their background or identity, feel genuinely welcomed and integral to the campus community.

Empowerment

Providing tools, resources, and opportunities that enable individuals to voice their experiences, advocate for change, and play a significant role in shaping the campus culture.

Transformation

Enacting lasting, positive changes in the campus environment, moving beyond mere awareness to ingraining diversity, equity, and inclusion in the ethos of Bradley University.

Education & Workshops

Guided by our pillars, we’re committed to fostering a rich learning environment for the Bradley University community. These workshops are designed to raise awareness and equip our students, faculty, and staff with actionable strategies for fostering inclusivity.

We want to hear from you! Feel free to request a meeting with one of our OCCC staff members to discuss your specific DEI needs.

Identity Spaces

Bradley’s Identity Spaces are designed to celebrate who you are and support who you’re becoming. These welcoming spaces offer a place to connect, build community, and access valuable resources—all in an environment where you can truly be yourself. Open to all Bradley students, faculty, and staff during regular hours, Identity Spaces are about more than support—they’re about belonging.

Welcome! We’re a safe space for you to meet, gather, relax, collect resources and connect with other members of Bradley’s LGBTQ+ community. Together, we foster a safe environment for individuals of all orientations and gender identities.

The name “Kaleidoscope Center” came from the idea that different gender, romantic, and sexual identities come together to form the queer community, much like the colors and shapes of a kaleidoscope. The space was designed to be inclusive and welcoming to anyone on campus, regardless of identity, and the name was chosen to reflect that.

Visitors are welcome to study, play games, relax and collect resources ranging from pamphlets about binding safety to access to gender affirming healthcare. Enjoy free buttons and stickers, observe the rotating wall of art from local artists, or simply take a moment to breathe – There’s no one way to enjoy the center. After-hours booking options are coming soon.

Resources available through the center:

In addition to pamphlets and information from our community partners, we’ve joined with Central Illinois Friends to offer campus wide gender-affirming health clinics throughout the semester. Stay tuned for more as we continue to expand our resources.

Safety Precautions:

The spaces are monitored by university staff during hours of operation.

Bias Incident Report

Bradley University is committed to its vision and strategic imperatives, which commits us to a Welcoming, Caring, Diverse, and Inclusive environment. We are committed to understanding and creating a community within and beyond campus that allows you to feel welcome and included in your ability to participate in the learning experience.

A bias incident may be any hostile conduct, speech, expression, or action that is motivated, in whole or part, by bias or prejudice. It is NOT a hate crime in that bias does not involve criminal activity. The conduct, speech, expression, or action does not need to violate any federal, state, tribal, or local laws for review by the Bias Incident Resource Team or to be reviewed as a violation of University published policies.

Bias incidents are intentional or unintentional acts that discriminates, stereotypes, excludes, intimidates, mocks, degrades, threatens, or harasses a member of the Bradley University community based on a membership in a protected class.

Examples of a Bias Incident include, but are not limited to:

  • Use of racial or ethnic slurs to identify or degrade someone using degrading language
  • Racist or derogatory images/drawings
  • Imitating someone with a disability
  • Imitating someone’s cultural norms or practice
  • Faculty or staff member making pejorative comments or stereotypes about a protected class of people
  • Jokes based on stereotypes
  • Calling someone the R-word, F-word, N-word, or other related name calling

Just because specific conduct, speech, expression, or action may be deemed offensive or inflammatory to some does not necessarily make them a bias-related offense. Bradley University values freedom of speech and expression and the open exchange of ideas. This includes the expression of controversial ideas and differing points of view, which is a critical part of the educational process. While we value this freedom, it does not protect an individual who engages in harassment or expressions of bias or hate aimed at community members or groups in violation of institutional policies.

The purpose of the Bradley University Bias Incident Resource Team and protocol is to advance an inclusive campus climate by effectively and comprehensively responding to bias incidents. The Bias Resource Team is not meant to serve as an investigative or disciplinary body. Rather, it allows the team to provide timely and relevant resources to the targets, respondents, and community members who report, witness, or are responsible for the safety of the university community. The Bias Incident Resource Team enables the University to track and monitor bias incidents, collect aggregate data, identify relevant responses, connect individuals affected by bias incidents with supportive resources, and support/inform campus educational opportunities.
