Dr. Jerisha Farrer
Biography
Dr. Jerisha V. Farrer is an accomplished adult and higher education professional who demonstrates a deep commitment to connection and strategy through lifelong learning, political and civic engagement, and cultural competency. With a strong passion for motivating individuals to discover their purpose and path, Dr. Farrer focuses on meeting the basic needs of students and providing mentorship to ensure their successful matriculation through continuing and post-secondary education, research opportunities, and employment.
Dr. Farrer has developed a keen interest in addressing basic needs insecurities among adult learners at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion at HBCUs and Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs), and fostering professional development for adult learners who are emerging professionals in higher education and student affairs. Her expertise also extends to educational technology.
Dr. Farrer holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Government from Winston-Salem State University, a Master of Science in Adult and Continuing Education from North Carolina A&T State University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Adult and Continuing Education Administration from Auburn University. Her career in higher education began in 2012, and she has since gained experience across a variety of institutional types, including HBCUs, public universities, and community colleges. She has worked in residence life, college access and inclusion and diversity roles at Auburn University, Appalachian State University, and Fayetteville State University.
When not working her day job you can find her being an active and financial member with the Hickory Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., volunteering with the NC Conservation League of Voters, volunteering with Catawba County Board of Elections as a Precinct Chief Judge during local/state/national elections, or walking trying to get her steps!
