Smith Career Center Helps with Unpaid Internships

By Brandon Wallace '17

The Smith Career Center’s Springer Center for Internships is encouraging experiential learning through the Internship Fund Award. The funding is used to assist students whose internships are unpaid or only offer stipends.

Awards, which typically range from $500 to $1,000, are awarded on a competitive basis, with financial need one of several factors considered.  For students who have unpaid internships this coming summer, applications are still being accepted through May 1st.  Students must register their internship through the Smith Career Center in order to be considered for the award.

Brenna Mulholland ‘17, a sophomore International Business and Marketing double major from Appleton, Wisconsin, received funding for a public relations and marketing internship with Film Independent in California.

“I was going to head to California to live for the summer with no income,” she said. “The scholarship helped me to not only pay for gas and hotels to get to and from California, but also the means to live while there. The scholarship was mainly to travel, but also aided in living expenses such as food and housing.”

“We hope that Bradley students will find the awards helpful as they pursue meaningful internships for summer 2015,” said Dawn Koeltzow, Director of the Springer Center for Excellence in Internships.
