The Caterpillar College of Engineering and Technology and Foster College of Business prepare our students for the workforce through providing them with hands-on, practical experiences. Our convergence and capstone projects are a way in which our students work together with industry partners to solve complex problems and take advantage of opportunities. Our students work under the guidance of our faculty advisors and clients to produce real world deliverables that allow the students to explore all the aspects of the project, while providing the client with a beneficial end product.
These projects can be specific to a single discipline, as is the case with a traditional capstone project. They can also be a multi-disciplinary capstone convergence project, in which two or more groups come together from different disciplines to work together to solve a problem or take advantage of an opportunity.
Each April, student teams will exhibit their accomplishments at the Capstone Open House. Participants have an opportunity to present their work through presentations, poster exhibitions, and product demonstrations, to a diverse audience including clients, faculty, University leadership, the Business and Engineering Advisory Council, members of the business and engineering sectors, fellow students, family members, and the public at large.
All student teams meet weekly with their faculty advisors throughout the semester to discuss topics such as project management, process improvement, client interaction, technical communications, as well as relevant technical topics.
At the end of the semester, student teams will exhibit their accomplishments at the Capstone Open House. As a participant, students have an opportunity to present their solutions through prototype demonstrations and poster exhibitions to a diverse audience including faculty, fellow students, family members, members of the business and engineering sectors, and the broader public community.
This year’s open house is scheduled for Friday, April 26, 2024 from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. Everyone is invited to attend to support our students, to learn more about their projects, and to learn more about our programs. Check our program and schedule of events for more information.
