FAQ

Academic

How is the Executive MBA program different from an accelerated or professional MBA program?
The EMBA program is structured to meet the needs of individuals in senior management roles, focusing on the leadership and strategic-thinking skills needed to be successful at the executive level. The program generally targets participants who have 10-15 years of work experience, with an average of five years of significant experience in a managerial capacity. The collective professional experience of EMBA participants enriches the learning experience both inside and outside the classroom.

When are classes held?
Classes are held from 8 am to 5 pm typically every other Friday and Saturday. The program includes a week-long residency, called the Leadership Challenge, at the beginning of the program. It also includes an 11-day international trip toward the end of the program.

Does the Bradley EMBA Program accept credits from other institutions?
Our program has a lock step format, meaning all of our students take the same classes in a specific order. The program is designed for one to work closely with the same study group and grow together as a team. Because of the structure of the classes and the nature of the work to be completed, we do not accept any transfer credits.

How are the students divided into study groups?
We hand pick teams of four to six people based on expertise, level of management experience, industry and educational back ground. The teams are well-balanced so that you learn to grow together and rely on each other throughout your various projects and exams during the program.

What degree will I earn?
Bradley University confers an MBA degree for graduates of the Executive MBA program.

How much time should I expect to set aside for homework during the week?
For each hour you are in the classroom, you should expect to spend an hour outside the classroom on homework, including team meetings, projects and individual work.

What is the international trip?
Focusing on emerging markets, (Brazil, China, or India, for example), the international trip offers a first-hand education in cultural awareness and the nuances of doing business on an international level. The trip includes a team-based project focused on a company located in the destination. An individual project day is also required. The destination country is announced approximately six months into the program.

I travel a lot for my job. What if I miss class?
We value everyone's participation in class. Moreover, our classes are demanding, and missing even one class poses a significant challenge for you and your study group. But we also know that occasionally your job or personal circumstances may require you to miss a class. Through close interaction with both the instructor and study groups, it is expected students will maintain their progress.

Is there an orientation before classes begin?
Orientation is held on the first weekend of classes and includes preparatory material in finance.

Do I need any preparation before starting the program?
As a general rule, no. Each student completes a foundation course in finance. This course is completed at the start of the EMBA program.

Admission

What is required for the application?
Please review the EMBA catalog for the most up to date requirements.

What does the committee consider when reviewing applications?
The Executive MBA admissions committee considers numerous factors, including work experience, academic history, recommendations, company sponsorship, personal interview, and the body of the application itself.

What if I don’t have the recommended 5 to 7 years of managerial experience?
We define managerial experience broadly to include project management and team leadership. If you want to know if you are a good candidate for the Executive MBA program, contact us to discuss your background and experience.

Is it possible to be admitted without a bachelor’s degree?
Nearly all of our students have a bachelor’s degree. Rarely, a candidate without a bachelor’s degree may be admitted as an exception to the degree requirement when the applicant has an exceptional portfolio including a significant record of managerial experience.

Do I need to take the GMAT?
No. When considering applicants we focus on work experience, career goals, employer's endorsement, desire to succeed, and numerous other factors.

Who should write my letters of recommendation?
A direct supervisor must be one of the recommenders, unless you are self-employed. Other recommenders can be colleagues, associates, and others who can comment on your capacity to lead.

What is the application deadline?
Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis up until one month prior to the start of the program. Admissions decisions are typically made within 30 days of receipt of the completed application.

Is an interview required?
Yes, all candidates must complete an in-person interview with the Associate Dean before the application is considered complete. Interviews are an important part of the admissions process, as they add a personal dimension to each application. Once all of your application documents have been received, you will be contacted to set up an interview time.

When will I be notified of the admissions decision?
We have a rolling admissions policy. About 30 days after the Executive MBA office has received the completed application and all supporting materials, you will receive, by mail, a decision regarding acceptance to the program. Due to the competitive nature of the program, early application is encouraged.
