Safety Alert - April 25, 2023

Today at approximately 7:22 p.m. the Bradley University Police Department (BUPD) received a bomb threat for the Business, Engineering and Convergence Center on campus (BECC), resulting in a campus-wide lockdown.

BUPD quickly responded to the BECC, working closely with the Peoria Police Department (PPD) and the PPD’s EOD squad. After a thorough sweep of the building the all clear was given at 9:55 p.m.

During the sweep by law enforcement, the BECC and the neighboring Renaissance Coliseum were evacuated. There were no injuries reported during this operation.

The Bradley University Police Department is well trained for emergency situations, frequently conducts emergency operations drills, and has a proven and successful working relationship with the Peoria Police Department. Campus safety is the BUPD’s top priority and every threat is taken seriously and will be investigated thoroughly.

During this investigation the BECC will be closed until further notice. Any student, faculty or staff who left property behind during the evacuation can come to the south entrance of the BECC and officers will help reunite property with owners between 10:15 p.m. and midnight tonight.
