Program Services

Pre-Campus Arrival:

Families will have opportunities to meet coaches and ask questions during once a month check-ins (June, July, and August). In addition, Moss Scholars and their family will meet with their Executive Function Coach for a one hour virtual meeting prior to moving in. Coaches will get to know students individually, discuss learning styles, concerns, and goals.

B-Prep Week:

Students will move to Bradley campus a week before other students for one of our two program tracks:

College 101: How do Do College? (first year)

• Organize digital platforms
• Walk through class schedule
• More in depth campus tour of specific areas
• Meet with Kristina Montelongo in Student Access Services to determine accommodations
• Purchase books and materials
• Guest speakers from across campus
• Social opportunities before fall classes begin
• Workshops
• Master the Learning Management System Bradley Canvas
• One-on-one student and coach meetings, as needed

College 201: How do Do College Better? (returning students)

• Organize digital platforms

• Social opportunities before fall classes begin
• Workshops

Coaching

• Individualized weekly meetings with coach
• Student-focused academic case management, help with registration, and deadlines
• Assistance with communication with advisors, instructors, and other campus resources
• Organizational assistance with semester planning, weekly schedules, and weekly checklists
• Break down large assignments into more manageable pieces
• Suggestions for study habits, study skills, workshop attendance and encouragement to engage with university supports and resources
• Teach and model self-advocacy
• Schedule exams through Student Access Services

What do coaching sessions look like?

• Meet with the same coach each week (or based on your level)
• Set academic and personal goals
• Check online school systems
• Track due dates
• Work on executive functioning skills such as time management, organization, and prioritization
• Break down large assignments into more manageable pieces
• Promote self-advocacy through connecting with staff, tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, Writing Center, Presentation Center, Counseling, and Health Services

Levels of Support

• Level 1 - 60 minute coaching session per week plus study group
• Level 2 - 30 minute coaching session per week plus study group
• Level 3 - 30 minute coaching session every other week
• Level 4 - 30 minute coaching session once a month or as needed

Study Group

• Study group is offered five days a week at the library. Students are required to go for at least one hour. This hour will give students the opportunity to work on assignments, pop over to tutors, connect with other Moss Scholars and staff.

Moss Scholar Study Room

• Study room available from 7AM to 10PM in Sisson Hall during the regular academic semester

Housing

• If you are interested in living near other Moss Scholars, Geisert or Lovelace Hall are for you! Geisert Hall has double rooms, a lounge on each floor, and a cafeteria in the basement.
• Lovelace Hall is single occupancy and next to Geisert Hall.
• Roommate match, if desired

Social Events

• Connect with other Moss Scholars for scheduled activities! We go to laser tag, escape rooms, painting, and more. Join our Moss Scholar Advisory Committee to plan events!

Transitioning marks a pivotal moment where graduates embark on their professional journey. This period involves navigating career choices, seeking employment opportunities, and adapting to new responsibilities and environments. It's a time for graduates to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during their academic years, while also honing interpersonal skills and leveraging networking opportunities. We work hard to ensure the transitions is smooth as possible and involve exploring various career paths, accessing mentorship and professional development programs, and embracing continuous learning to thrive in their chosen fields.
